A music producer’s talent doesn’t pay until it has a funnel: a way to be found, trusted, booked, and paid. Most Nigerian creatives never build one - and no one shows them how.
🔨 Solution
MelodicJeanious - a working music-mixing/production brand operated as ten repositories:
Architecture Overview
- Two website generations - a 2020 React SPA, then a 2021 rebuild with a structured SCSS design system (animations, color, type, responsiveness, shadows as separate modules), protected routes, sitemap/robots - plus commit and PR templates on a solo project.
- An instrumented booking funnel - a dedicated React booking app with confirmation flows, Facebook Pixel and Google Analytics instrumentation, tests, and pragmatic shared-hosting deployment (.htaccess SPA rewrites).
- Designed-then-built APIs - a separate system-design repo holding the UML before the Express/MongoDB API was written;
mj-api’s controller/helper scaffold (APIError, paginator, roles, responseHandler) became the personal boilerplate reused across every later backend. - The offer finder - a 2024 Python tool that mines a raw Instagram data export (hundreds of real DM conversations plus survey responses like “what is stopping you from reaching your goal?”) to decide, from evidence, what the audience actually wants to buy.
- A mixing course as part of the offer - creator education inside the brand.
📜 Philosophy
Treat a creative service business like a software product: instrument the funnel, design the API before building it, and when choosing what to sell, mine real audience conversations instead of guessing. Sustained for four years - 39 commits on the 2021 site alone, into mid-2024.
🎓 Key learnings
- Full-cycle creative-business ownership: brand → site → funnel → API → analytics → offer research.
- Deploying on the infrastructure creatives can actually afford (shared hosting), not the infrastructure engineers prefer.
- Customer research from primary data - the DM-mining habit that shaped all later funnel work.
